Lincoln Vs. Obama extra credit

To me Lincoln & Obama to me are very similar. They both have views similar to equal rights and are open to say them. Obama has came out and openly talked about the civil rights movement of the 1950's - 1960's. to contrast their two speeches I would have to say that lincoln's speech about the Dred Scott case which I have intense knowledege on because that was my NHD project was a big turning point. Lincoln used to the Constitution as his window to back up his claims and interpret our founding fathers. Obama also a lawyer for the Harvard law review used to the Constitution as his window to. also i belive if Lincoln could win through all the convestries going on the Obama has a chance . But it seems as though history is repeating its self.

Service learning Meeting 3

For this service learning meeting I was absent. But I talked to a follow student of my group & Ms. Mc Mullun who informed me that the survey was finalized & will be put out tomorrow. Also this week we will be putting together a schedule for people who will be tutoring next year. Also get together all the teachers who said they think tutoring is needed and then organize the schedule. I think the role I was like to take on is the role of the recorder i feel like I can keep detailed notes for everything.

2nd service learning

At this service learning we discussed the possibility of going to other schools and in house tutoring. Independece Charter is moving and we need a new school. We also composed the survey for students & staff that asks such questions as do they want to be tutored by someone of their grade or younger etc. We then began typing the surveys so we can get them out. Overall the meeting went very good.

First service Learning

At the first service learning meeting for the tutoring we discussed the chances of going to to Indepedence Charter school that the last year tutoring group went to. Ms. McMillian also decided that for next week we will each write a letter asking each school for permission. We are also to research a local school that is in walking distance if we want to go & tutor their students. Overall we got a lot of work done . After I researched I decided that most Philadelphia students are lacking in math & science. Since we are a history high school we may also want to tutor in history .

The African American Cultural connection

For the African American Project I decided to to a connection to spoken word. Through my research I figured out the spoken word had a connection to folklore , and language and religion. I decided to use poem by Phillis Whealty a fomer slave. I wrote the commact essay on her poem" Address to the Diest". I then recited my poem and explained the connections.

Service Learning Ideas

For service learning i decided to research local schools that have not AYP. AYP is Annual Yearly Progress and whoare which in walking distance. These schools will in need of extra help for students.I was thinking that we could tutor in math & science since thoseare the subjects where philadelphia school students have problems the most. I was thinking Mc Call .
